DePaul University’s rehabilitation and conversion of a historic 11-story, 650,000-square-foot department store building in the heart of Chicago’s downtown (the Loop) for use as a retail, office, and educational facility was a complex achievement. It succeeds as an institutional/municipal partnership, as a rehabilitation of an urban landmark, as an innovative financial endeavor, and as a provider of educational services to its city.
